VehicleHistory.com Approves Of New Invisible Bike Helmets

We spend a lot of time here on the VehicleHistory.com blog talking about cars. But those aren't the only kinds of vehicles that we are interested in. The VehicleHistory.com staff is also into bikes – both manual ones and motorcycles. But, like a lot of people, we hate wearing the helmets that keep us safe. Which is why we at VehicleHistory.com are delighted to learn about the new invisiblebike helmets.

They were created because of the theory that traditional bike helmets make you look like a cross between someone who forgot the rest of their Alien xenomorph costume and a five-year-old who has just been given his first tricycle. Plus, if you have long hair or curly hair you look ridiculous once you take the helmet off. So they figured that if they could come up with a way for you to protect your head while riding a bike without looking like a doofus, people would be into it.

What they came up with is a device that attaches to your head that can sense when you are about to get into an accident and fall off your bike. Then, and only then, it shoots out an airbag that covers and protects your entire head before impact.

Isn't that a great way to stay safe while also looking your best? At VehicleHistory.com, we certainly think so! That's why we can't wait to try them out – and hope you will too!

VehicleHistory.com Salutes New Coast-To-Coast Driving Record!

It's no secret that the folks here at VehicleHistory.com love driving. Otherwise we wouldn't be working at VehicleHistory.com in the first place! Which is why we keep up on all the latest driving news and try to pass it on to you when we can. Today, the VehicleHistory.com blog is dedicated to Ed Bolian for setting a new record from driving from midtown Manhattan to Redondo Beach, California.

It took Bolian only 29 hours to make the trip. That means that he averaged 98 miles per hour from coast to coast! Taking into account food and bathroom breaks, he was probably driving considerably faster than that for most of the trip.

While doing so was obviously illegal, it is also a triumph. He had to soup up his car with advanced electronics to avoid the police. He had to keep track of where there were traffic problems and find out how to avoid them. He had to fill up for gas as quickly as possible. And he had to do it all safely.

Now, we are not encouraging other people to try to beat his record, but we do have to admit that it is awfully impressive and worthy of being in the VehicleHistory.com record books.

Bolian had said he'd wanted to make the record books ever since he saw The Cannonball Run when he was 18 years old. Maybe Burt Reynolds should come out of retirement to congratulate him!

VehicleHistory.com Supports The Adoption Of Self-Driving Cars

At VehicleHistory.com, we do our best to keep up with what's going on with cars. After all, cars are VehicleHistory.com's business! Which is why we found a recent study on the safety effects of self-driving cars to be very interesting. In fact, they make VehicleHistory.com hope that self-driving cars hit the marketplace as soon as possible.

Here's the skinny: Self-driving cars are now so safe that if 90 percent of people in America were using them, an average of 21,700 lives a year would be saved and the economic benefits for the country would be about $447 billion.

That's a lot of lives and a lot of money. But it makes sense. Self-driving cars don't get drunk, don't fall asleep, and don't become road rage drivers. They simply get you where you want to go, as safely as possible.

We understand that there is some resistance to self-driving cars. People like to drive. Some worry about losing control if the car malfunctions. And there is the question of liability if there is an accident.

Those are worthy concerns, but the benefits to the public outweigh them. The truth is that most people are not perfect drivers, and it only takes one bad driver on the road to put everyone's life at risk.

VehicleHistory.com hopes that self-driving cars become the wave of the future, and help make deaths behind the wheel a thing of the past.
